HUMANS:

The race of humans are 'new' to the world of Meth'iir. They have only been in the world for approximately 500 years. The first contact with humans by the other races happened about 50 years after their appearance as refugees came from the east fleeing the tyranny of the ones they called the Mage Lords. They came peacefully, so it seemed, and took up residence along the eastern side of Midstaar, between the sea and the Ghistmondst.

They first approached the dwarves to trade goods and this seemed a worthwhile effort by the dwarves. But as the humans multiplied, they began to take upmore and more room, until finally, to keep their own borders, the dwarves informed the humans they must leave.

This did not go over well. The humans, now having lived here for almost 200 years, were not of the mind to start over. They were on the verge of declaring war with the dwarves, until they realized the full host of enemies they would come up against.

Realizing that their destiny would be at an end, they came to terms with the dwarven clans and began a transition to expand southward and northward instead of westward. Though the land wash harsher in those areas, at least the humans would not be wiped out.

However, in the Eastern world the humans grew in strength. Their hearts, however, were not on peace, but in conquest. They expanded the empire of the Mage Lords South and West, almost to the borders of the dwarves mountains. They were quickly at war with the goblinoid races, who had lived south of them for many years and the first battles between them went against the goblin races.

However, at some point in their war, there arose among them a Lord capable of holding the clans together. None have ever seen him, not even those who are closest to him remember who he is. He calls himself the Foe, and is a master of elemental magics and forces.

Thanks to him, the human advance was stopped, and much regained. Frustrated, the Mage Lords attempted assassination, only to find the assassins returned to them seeking to slay the one who sent them!

Needless to say, this did not go well, and finally an uneasy truce was declared between the Mage Lords and the Foe.

At the current time, they are even uneasy allies, at times, in their conquests against the other races, especially the dwarves.

The elves, having been allied with the dwarves for countless centuries, assist them in their wars against the humans and the goblinoids, finding that a dwarven buffer is preferrable to having the Mage Lord armies at their own door. the humans, too, that fled them, aid where needed as part of their compact with the dwarves in defending the Western part of the continent, and small garrisons of human warriors, rangers, and even clerics can be found sporadically east of the mountains which divide the northern part of the continent.
